Operations, Reliability & Maintenance Have Been My Job for Thirty-Five Years

Chartered engineer. Five years running Sandringham Services independently. Twenty-one years with Chevron before that.

Chartered Engineer · Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional · Operational Excellence

In 2000, I was running a plant in Singapore that was down every few days, problems scattered across almost every type of equipment, with no obvious pattern. We quantified them, prioritised them, and worked through them one by one, and within a couple of years we'd gone from constant firefighting to a steady, predictable operation, a happier customer, and a workforce that wasn't permanently exhausted. That's when I understood what reliability actually does for a plant, and I've built my career around it since. The lesson that's stuck with me longest came earlier, from my first years at Chevron: quality decisions based on reliable information. I leaned on it hardest as a maintenance manager, shutting down a high-pressure, multi-stage compressor over a leak on a critical component, against real resistance from people who wanted it kept running, a $10 million call, because the alternative was a failure that could have cost lives. I'd make that call again.

I'm a chartered engineer with thirty-five years in oil, gas and petrochemical operations, the last five running Sandringham Services as an independent consultancy based in Bahrain. Before that, I spent twenty-one years with Chevron, mostly in Singapore and Bahrain, finishing as Project Manager for Maintenance & Reliability at the Bapco refinery, where I led the strategic reliability program that took the plant to over 98% mechanical availability, worth an estimated $43 million a year, and was recognised with the company's Shareholder Award for it. Since founding Sandringham Services in December 2020, I've worked with operators across the Middle East and Europe on operations performance, reliability and maintenance strategy alike, from board-level governance reviews to hands-on execution, identifying the initiatives worth doing, eliminating the ones that aren't, and seeing the resulting plan through to delivery rather than handing over a report and moving on. I've sat in the seat my clients sit in and made the calls they're making, which is usually why they call me back.

Why Work With Us

We Exist To Improve Your Performance

We know the difference between how a process is documented and how it actually runs on site. That gap is where initiatives stall and OPEX gets wasted, and it's where we work: identifying what's worth doing, cutting what isn't, and embedding with your team to see it through.
